AN ANGLIAN Water handbook helping Huntingdonshire water and sewage workers to identify wildlife has won a national award.
The Anglian Water Biodiversity Field Guide was given top marks for Corporate Responsibility by the Institute of Internal Communications (formerly CIB) at its annual award ceremony in London on Friday.
The guide was written especially for the staff who run thousands of Anglian Water sites, and is designed to encourage them to identify and encourage the development of the wildlife at those sites.
Using the book, staff have so far identified water voles, dormice, otters and white-clawed crayfish.
Judges praised the handbook for being a “robust field guide that employees both use and like using, with strong visual images and lasting appeal”. The guide was launched last year, with supporting information on the Anglian Water intranet.
The guide was devised by Andy Brown, biodiversity manager for Anglian Water.
He said: “To win this award is fantastic and testament to the enthusiasm of all our employees who are using the guide to make real improvements to the sites that they work on.
“The work they do is instrumental in delivering Anglian Water’s Biodiversity Action Plan and the amount of knowledge we have in our field-based staff is just amazing.”
