A CONFERENCE in Cambridge is offering businesses help in securing a share of millions of pounds of EU funding.

The "Get a Life" conference will advise businesses on how to access the £17million that has been allocated to the UK by the EU's LIFE+ environmental project funding programme.

The conference, organised by the East of England Regional Development Agency in partnership with the East of England Development Agency, will be held at the Trinity Centre, Cambridge Science Park, on July 1 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

Businesses will be helped to prepare their proposals before the deadline of September 15.

Delegates will be informed about specific strands within the LIFE+ funding streams, and offered first-hand information on tactics for successfully applying for funding. They will have a chance to hear case studies from previous regional recipients of the funding and have an opportunity to raise questions with a representative of the LIFE+ programme in the UK.

Delegates at the event will include local authorities, public bodies, private commercial organisations, NGOs and other non-commercial organisations.

Michael Allen, chairman of EERA's environment and resources panel and of the event, said: "Anticipating and adapting to the challenges facing our environmental infrastructure is a key priority for all of us, and we see the LIFE+ programme as a critical component in achieving sustainable economic growth that neither diminishes our well-being nor limits our potential growth in the future.

"This conference will help organisations in the region to secure funding for environmental projects that will ultimately contribute to making the East of England a flourishing region."
