Saturday is expected to be a bumper day for sales of pumpkins across the UK and Huntingdonshire farmer Robert Stacey is prepared for anyone who wants to come and pick their own.

Mr Stacey, who supplies Lidl supermarkets, has grown around 100,000 pumpkins and squashes this season and is encouraging families to visit Freshfields Farm in Ramsey Forty Foot and see his amazing display.

“We have increased our acreage over the years just to keep pace with demand,” he said.

“I am passionate about pumpkins, but the squashes are my favourites, I think it is something about the colours. We are happy for families to come along and grab a wheelbarrow and pick their own,” he added.

Mr Stacey, who is a fourth generation farmer and also produces potatoes, sweet corn and wheat on his 700-acre farm, said the pumpkin crop has been “very good” this year due to some perfect weather conditions.
