THE site of the former BRJ Club, in Sallowbush Road, Huntingdon, has been bulldozed to make way for an extension to St John’s CofE School, which will see a significant expansion in its capacity from September.

Although the school’s full new capacity is not expected to be taken up until 2016, St John’s is seen by education authority Cambridgeshire County Council as the easiest place to accommodate Huntingdon’s expanding population of rising fives.

The BRJ Club, which was founded in 1972, closed in 2010 after struggling for some years to attract enough business.

Former club members organised a final farewell outside the clubhouse last month before the bulldozers moved in to make way for St John’s new classrooms, as can be seen from this picture taken by Geoff Soden, of Paramotors UK in Alconbury.
