Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly has been elected by MPs to sit on the Exiting the European Union Parliamentary Select Committee.

The committee is responsible for scrutinising Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union and the work of Brexit secretary David Davis and his civil servants as they continue to negotiate with EU colleagues in Brussels.

Mr Djanogly said: “Clearly over the next couple of years the question of both the UK’s arrangements for Brexit and its future arrangements with the EU are going to dominate our agenda in parliament and beyond.

“Given how important these issues are I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to be at the centre of this process. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to ensure a smooth as possible Brexit.”

The committee is to be chaired by Labour MP Hilary Benn, and will also feature prominent Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.
