HUNTINGDON Racecourse’s historic Boxing Day racing has been called off because of the weather.
Ground staff, led by clerk of the course Andrew Morris, had been taking measures to protect the course from the elements, including laying fleece frost covers last week.
An initial plan for an inspection on Christmas Eve was brought forward to this morning because of overnight frost.
The frost was found to have got into the ground underneath the protective fleeces. There is no prospect of the track being raceable by Sunday, so the meeting was called off.
All pre-purchase tickets bought for the meeting will be refunded.
