Former St Neots manager Dennis Greene falsely claimed more than £6,000 in benefits during his time at the Saints and Histon.
Greene, now of Fishtoft Road, Boston, made claims for housing and Council Tax benefits between 2011 and 2012 while he was living in Stonehill, St Neots, and then from 2012 to 2013 while at Market Square, St Neots.
At first the 47-year-old, who now is in charge of Boston United in the Conference North, said he was unemployed and was claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance and from March 2012 said he was in low paid employment.
In July 2012, Greene claimed he was unemployed again.
An investigation was launched after a tip off from a member of the public who contacted Huntingdonshire District Council and told them that Greene was manger of St Neots Football Club.
The probe found that Greene had worked at St Neots and Histon football clubs when he had claimed benefit.
Officers found that Greene had falsely claimed £6,166.86 in housing and Council Tax benefit from September 2011 to January 2013.
At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on February 5, Greene admitted three charges. He was given a 12-month community order and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and repay the £6,166.86 as well as £1,000 compensation and £500 costs.
