Author Anthony Le Moignan will be signing copies of his debut book - A Long Goodbye - at Waterstones in St Neots.

The event, on August 16, is the first book signing to be held at the bookshop, in New Street, since Waterstones re-opened in the former Barretts department store in November last year.

The second floor of the building will be converted for the event, which will include a drinks reception for guests before a short reading, question and answer session, and then the book signing.

Le Moignan has garnered national attention around the launch of his powerful debut novel, which tells the story of a young man who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers and falls in love one last time.

The story, set entirely in Cambridgeshire, was influenced and inspired by the author’s time with his late father, Des Le Moignan, a World War Two Royal Air Force veteran, who lived with Alzheimer’s for many years before passing away in January this year.

In May, Le Moignan partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society on the book launch in order to raise awareness about the disease and funds for the charity, donating proceeds from the sale of every copy he sells.

He said: “It has been an incredible and humbling experience to be able to shine a light on Alzheimers with my work. It was my life’s ambition to become a published author, and the fact that I’ve been able to raise money and awareness for such a great cause that’s so close to my heart makes it all the more special for me. My family tell me that dad would have been proud.”

He added: “I’m over the moon that Waterstones will be hosting me at its first-ever book signing event, and I cannot thank their store manager, Jacqui, enough for her help in organising it all.”

Jacqui Howchin, manger at Waterstones, in St Neots, said: “ We are delighted to welcome Anthony for what I am sure will be a fascinating talk.”

Tickets are £2 and available from Waterstones. All the money will be donated to Coffee Pot, which is a St Neots-based group dedicated to supporting dementia sufferers and their carers. Le Moignan will also match and donate the amount raised from ticket sales.

INFO: A Long Goodbye, priced at £7.99, is available now at Waterstones or online at: anothonylemoignan.com. The book signing event starts at 7pm.
