A BMW worth 25,000 was stolen from a house in Alconbury Weston after being left to de-ice with the engine running.

Police are now warning motorists to be careful after the theft from a driveway in Vinegar Hill, Alconbury Weston at around 8am on Tuesday (November 16).

The owner had left the red BMW running to de-ice, but when he went into his house to pick up his laptop and coat, thieves drove his vehicle away.

Police want to speak to the driver of a blue Volkswagen car and a jogger who were seen in the road around the time of the theft.

Detective Constable Sue Swales, investigating, said: “This should serve as a timely warning to other drivers of the dangers of leaving your car unattended with the keys in the ignition.

“With cold, frosty mornings, it is tempting to ‘warm up’ your vehicle in this way, but it means easy pickings for thieves.”

INFORMATION: Anyone with any information about the theft of the BMW should call DC Swales on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
