Ermine Street Church Academy welcomed parents, pupils, and guests to the opening ceremony on September 20.

The event was also attended by the Bishop of Ely, the Rt Rev Stephen Conway, and Reverend Julian Pursehouse, the chairman of the East Anglian District of the Methodist Church.

The day was a celebration of the history and future of the school. In the morning, the children had a tour of the site, showing them the old runway of the former airfield, as well as the new development of the 5,000 homes being built around them.

Head teacher Adrian Shepherd said: “Last September we cut the ribbon on the first primary school at Alconbury Weald and the first children entered the building. Back then there were only 10 children and, a year later, we have over 70 pupils.

“Our commitment to the children in our care is to give them the roots to nurture them and, through learning, to give them the wings to achieve their aspirations.”
