The school wanted to do something to remember all those and fought and died and released the biodegradable balloons, each one with a name of a soldier who died from the local area in the Great War.

Jamie Green, head of humanities, said: “The 90 balloons will make a strong visual statement to the students and to the community about those who lost their lives in the First World War. The specially sourced balloons are designed to have a low impact on the environment.”

All classrooms in the school adopted a soldier as a way of showing students the cost people from this town paid during the First World War. This will be the first of many events taking will place this year to remember those who sacrificed so much.
