A CD produced by St Neots teenagers has been presented to Tory leader David Cameron to highlight the impact of domestic violence on young people.

Anne Harris, project worker at the St Neots Abuse Project (SNAP) gave the CD to Mr Cameron last month (January 22).

She said: "I presented the CD to Mr Cameron to show the children that it is being taken seriously."

SNAP is a registered charity that was established in St Neots 19 years ago to provide support and advice to those suffering physical and mental domestic abuse. It runs a confidential helpline for victims of domestic abuse.

The Breaking the Cycle CD aims to break the cycle of the bullied becoming the abuser in later life.

It lasts 20 minutes and explores what young people consider to be violent, what violence they are likely to be subjected to and what help they need. Topics explored include video games, gangs, bullying and neglect.

One young person talks about how abusive partners sometimes force their teenage girlfriends into taking drugs. To highlight this she uses the example of a girl who started using heroine at 15. Other youngster's talk about how some teenagers turn to alcohol and drugs to escape pain.

The project involved youngsters from Mind, Nacro, Paines Mill Foyer and Crossroads West Anglia Young Carers who provided voiceovers for the CD. Funding was received from RAF Brampton/Wyton and MP Jonathan Djanogly.

Mrs Harris said the CD will be circulated to MPs, youth organisations and schools.

She said: "We made the CD so that young people would have a way to tell adults what they need to put their own lives on track.

"Our sincere thanks go to the young people who worked hard to make this CD. They shared their thoughts during discussion groups and recorded voice-overs. They brought an honest freshness and energy that impressed us and will stay with us forever."
