YEAR five and six pupils at Westfield Junior School, St Ives, are preparing to put on an Arthurian performance tonight.

The youngsters will be bringing the sights and sounds of Camelot to the school in their adaptation of play What a Knight. Based loosely on the tales of King Arthur, the play boasts a cast of colourful characters including precocious princesses, a talking dragon and Merlin and his magic mirror.

It follows young squire Watt Cobblers, who after being expelled from Knight School, reluctantly becomes Merlin's new apprentice.

But when Merlin loses Excalibur, King Arthur's daughters are kidnapped and his brave knights turned into chickens, all hope rests with Watt and his new found friends Dusty Dragon and wayward Princess Alice.

More than 140 children took part in the production which also ran yesterday evening (Tuesday).

The Hunts Post is happy to clarify Westfield Junior School did not close during last Wednesday's strikes against public sector pension changes.
