AN ARTIST couple are appealing for a little magic to help bring the fairy ring sculpture in Huntingdon Town Park back to its full glory.

Martin and Zoe Richter created the fairy ring as a place for storytelling, relaxation and picnicing, ten years ago.

Since then , many of the mushroom sculptures, made of oak, beech, willow and English mahogany, have been stolen.

Saws were even used to cut away the tops of the sculptures after their bases were chained down in a bid to deter thieves.

Thanks to a 500 grant from the civic society, and a 250 grant from Huntingdon Town Council, three new sculptures have been created bringing the total up to seven.

Hardware store Travis & Perkins donated preservative, wood hardener, danish oil, white spirits, paint brushes, gloves and sand to help with the project.

But more sponsorship is needed to bring the fairy ring up to its full complement.

Mrs Richter said: “We would like to bring the numbers up so there is the full complement of mushrooms in the fairy ring.”

The fairy ring was designed for use by schools and members of the public as a spot for storytelling, picnicing, art and relaxation.
