POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the death of a teenage girl in Ramsey on Saturday (June 6).
Natalie Scotchford, 19, of Ramsey, died after the red Ford Transit van she was travelling in crashed into a dike and ended up overturned in the Nene river at 4am.
The driver of the van, a 22-year-old man from Ramsey was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released on bail until December 7.
Rescue workers pulled Miss Scotchford from the overturned car and took her to Peterborough City Hospital where she died soon afterwards.
PC James Thorne, of the collision investigation unit, said: “I’m extremely keen to speak to two people who were possibly night fishing on the opposite bank to the collision who may have witnessed what happened.
“One of the people was known to have said ‘I can’t swim’.
“I’m also seeking witnesses that saw the van that left Ramsey at around 3.40am.”
