AROUND 3,500 homes were left without water on Saturday after a pipe burst in Sallowbush Road.

Anglian Water said homes were without water from the early hours of the morning until about 5pm.

A spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to customers in parts of Huntingdon who were without water for a large part of Saturday. The loss of water was caused when a water main burst under Sallowbush Road, Huntingdon, in the early hours of the morning.

"Our engineers were quickly on site and managed to isolate the burst section and stop the leak. Unfortunately, this left around 3,500 homes without water.

"Around half the affected properties had supplies restored by lunchtime after water was re-routed through nearby pipes and this number increased as the afternoon went on.

"This was a complex repair to a large pipe and so took longer to fix than we would usually expect. Repairs were complete and supplies were back to normal around 5pm.

"We know this will have caused a great deal of inconvenience to those affected and we would like to thank them for their patience and co-operation."
