A developer has unveiled plans for more than 40 new apartments on a parcel of land in Huntingdon that was formerly earmarked for a supermarket.
JCAM Commercial Real Estate has applied to Huntingdonshire District Council for permission to build 42 apartments in Edison Bell Way, on part of the site that was set for a Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Sainsbury’s turned down the chance to move from its current location, in Huntingdon’s Chequers Court, in 2015.
The developer is proposing to include 13 car parking spaces, two of which will be designated for disabled drivers, as well as 66 cycle spaces.
As the 6.6-acre site is bounded by a railway line, a specialist noise mitigation report has been prepared for the development on behalf of JCAM.
The report concluded that noise from local roads and the railway could be “successfully mitigated” with a mixture of double glazing, orientation of the buildings, and the locating of bedrooms on the “quieter eastern façade”.
Any adverse impact from vibration, the report said, could be offset by “spread footings” which isolate the footings of the buildings on the site.
