An “intriguing” silver spoon which boasts a unique link to Huntingdon went for almost double its estimated price at auction.
The silver and enamel spoon is hallmarked to 1905 and was made in Birmingham but is engraved with the likeness of Hinchingbrooke School.
Chris Elmy, of auctioneers Lockdales, believes the spoon was most likely created as a gift to commemorate an event or long service linked to the Huntingdon school.
The item went under the hammer on April 21 at Lockdales, in Martlesham, near Ipswich, with an auctioneer’s guide price of £40 to £60.
But the spoon defied expectation and was sold for £110.
