SUMMER 2012 was another good year for Longsands Academy, although the number of students achieving A*- C grades was down 5.6 per cent to 70 per cent.

The proportion of students achieving A* and A grades rose to an all-time high of 9.3 per cent with every A Level candidate securing at least one pass.

The overall pass rate was 97.8 per cent.

Three students in particular had cause to celebrate securing entry into either Oxford or Cambridge University.

Christopher Nicholls is off to Oxford to study engineering, armed with three A*s.

Sadie Woolf will follow suit with two A*s and an A to study Law and Katherine Armstrong plans to study Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge after securing A*s in English Literature and Russian, As in French and Sociology and a B in History.

Executive principal, Rob Whatmough, told The Hunts Post: “These results represent a really pleasing outcome for students especially after the demands of advanced level study over a two-year period.

“The results and the very wide range of courses the students have successfully applied for reflect their extraordinary talents and the Academy’s ability to teach and support at the highest levels.”
