THE race for the Anglia in Bloom title has begun following the official launch in Godmanchester last Thursday.
The competition forms part of Godmanchester’s 800 charter celebrations, which will now include a royal visit.
The day also saw children at Godmanchester Community Primary School plant a tree at the new Jubilee copse, with the aid of the judges and town mayor Councillor Alan Welton.
The judges also went to Godmanchester Community Nursery, Park Lane, where they planted a hedgerow, and then went to a new garden at St Anne’s Primary School.
John Thackray, Godmanchester in Bloom chairman, said: “It was such an honour to be chosen as the host – it is the first time a small town like ours has been chosen.”
Cllr Welton also announed that the Duke of Gloucester would be visiting the town on September 13.
