Alconbury School has been celebrating the commitment of a teacher who has taught at the school for 25 years.

Maria Radwell, 59, from Alconbury Weston, has seen hundreds of children pass through the primary school, including her own three.

“My husband always lived in the area and he came to this school, as did his brother, and my children came to this school,” she told the Hunts Post.

After her first two children, Mrs Radwell taught at Alconbury Play Group, which was then on the same site as the school.

Even though Mrs Radwell has seen many changes in the school, including staff and building work, she says the ethos has always stayed the same.

She said: “The ethos of the school is what makes it and every person involved cares passionately about it and everyone does that bit extra.

“It’s a community and a family, I truly believe it, and it makes it a great place to work.”

Mrs Radwell has taught many age groups, but has spent the last 18 years teaching Year 6 classes.

“It’s a lovely age,” she said.

“I just like teaching and working with the children and that’s why I am still in the classroom. I believe that every child can achieve because they can.”
