The much-loved Little Gransden Air and Car Show is appealing for volunteers to “pitch-in” to help the event that has raised more than £350,000 for Children in Need.

Held in the last week of August, the display was founded in 1991 and is regarded as one of the highlights of the airshow calendar, but after more than 25 years, organisers are calling for more people to become involved.

The show’s organiser, Dave Poile, said: “We are proud that the show is regarded as a national institution, but I wonder how many of our visitors appreciate that it is dependent on the goodwill of sponsors and especially volunteers.

“We need more people to pitch in. You don’t have to be a pilot, or have any particular skills, what we need are keen individuals who can turn their hand to most things. There are lots of jobs to do leading up to the show, some taking just a couple of

hours a week.”

During the event, the teams transform Little Gransden airfield, at Fuller’s Hill Farm, from an empty field into an airshow and pack it all away again.

Over the years the crowds have been wowed by the aerobatic aces and formation teams and an action-packed display is promised for this year.

“Team leaders will be on-hand to show newcomers the ropes and everyone takes great pride in being part of something very special,” added Mr Poile.

Over the years, the event, which often welcomes visitors from around the globe, has seen stellar flying from a world-renowned Spitfire, along with a Lancaster, Hurricane and Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.

The show raises money for local charities with funds being split between Children in Need and other home-grown organisations.

This year’s show will take place on Sunday, August 27.
