An academy trust has taken over the running of two schools in Hartford in a bid to drive up standards.

Hartford Infant and Hartford Junior School have become part of the Cam Academy Trust, formerly known as the Comberton Multi Academy Trust, which oversees eight schools in Cambridgeshire.

Steve Davis, head teacher at Hartford Junior School, said: “We are thrilled to join the Cam Academy Trust. They have a wealth of experience in working with, and supporting schools across the Cambridgeshire area and we look forward to working with our new partner schools within the trust.”

Following the junior school’s last inspection, in September 2016, by education watchdog Ofsted, the school was deemed to require improvement after it was found a “new leadership team had not yet secured enough improvements to the quality of teaching, learning and assessment”.

Rae Lee, co-head teacher at Hartford Infant School, said: “Joining the Cam Academy Trust enables children from our community to receive the best possible education from the early years through to secondary school at St Peter’s. We are very pleased to be part of this close partnership.”

Both schools were taken over by the trust following applications to the Government on January 1.

Stephen Munday, chief executive of The Cam Academy Trust, said: “Through our partnership with the nearby St Peter’s School we understand the local community and look forward to working with the schools to improve outcomes for all children in Huntingdon.”
