A stone carver from St Neots has been awarded a bursary from The Lettering and Commemorative Arts Trust – an accolade presented by its patron, and award-winning actress, Joanna Lumley.
Fiona Flack fought off tough competition for her work in stone and letter carving – a passion she transformed into a business seven years ago - and was presetned with the Harriet Frazer Bursary Award at an event in London.
Lynne Alexander, Director of Education and Exhibitions at the Trust, said: “Fiona is truly deserving of this award. Her entry demonstrated a real passion for her craft.
“The Trust is founded on a tradition of nurturing talent and the Trustees were particularly impressed by Fiona’s commitment and proactive approach to ongoing learning.”
Fiona, who runs Stone Creation Studio, creates hand-carved designs, including memorials, public artworks, and house names, with some of her work once displayed in Ely Cathedral.
“I’m thrilled to have won this award,” she said.
“It will genuinely make a difference, helping me learn, gain inspiration from others and develop the traditional skills required to work in stone and slate. I’d like to thank the Trust for believing in me and my business.”
