A pub has achieved yet another accolade just over a year after reopening.
Husband and wife John and Julia Abbey, who lead the team at the Abbots Elm in Abbots Ripton, said they were thrilled and surprised to have won two AA rosettes.
“We didn’t set out to achieve rosettes,” said Mr Abbey. “We set out to do decent pub food.”
Nationally, about one in 10 restaurants have one rosette or more. Achieving two, says the AA, means the establishment has higher standards, better consistency, greater precision in cooking and obvious attention to use of quality ingredients.
The pub, which has three en-suite bedrooms, reopened in December 2012 having been closed since March 2010 following a fire.
It is also included in the 2014 editions of the Michelin restaurant guide and the Michelin guide to eating out in pubs.
