A lorry caught fire on the A14, causing the road to be closed.

One fire crew from Stanground, one from Sawtry and one from Huntingdon were called to the A14 eastbound carriageway between junction 23A for Alconbury South and junction 23 for Spittals at 7.18am this morning (May 27).

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish a tyre that was on fire underneath a lorry. Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for hotspots.

The road was closed by the Highways Agency while the incident was dealt with.

Crews returned to their stations by 8.30am.

The cause of the fire was accidental, due to an electrical fault.
