Drivers are being advised that the A1 will be closed overnight between Buckden and Brampton Hut next week while bridge beams are installed as part of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme. Highways England will be installing four 95-tonne, 33 metre-long concrete beams to create the new Grafham Road bridge, which will cross Britains longest road between Buckden and Brampton. The Highways Agency has said in order for this work to be carried out safely, the A1 will need to be closed between the two junctions overnight between 9pm and 5am from Wednesday, July 26 till Friday, July 28 July. When the A1 is closed, drivers heading southbound will be diverted to take the A14 south east to Godmanchester (junction 24), then follow the A1198 to Caxton Gibbet, and then the A428 to Wyboston Lakes to re-join the A1. Drivers heading northbound will follow this diversion in reverse. During the closures, Highways England operatives will also remove some old signage and gantries on this stretch which are no longer needed. Drivers can check travel conditions before setting out on journeys. Live traffic information: is available at: www.trafficengland.com.
