Visitors to Huntingdon celebrated Shrove Tuesday traditions a little early this year with a morning full of pancake fun.
Willing participants were invited to do a lap of the Market Square, showing off their style as they weaved and flipped their way around the course.
The pancake flipathon involved all members of the community, including local schools and businesses.
As Shrove Tuesday falls during half-term this year, organisers Huntingdon Town Council opted to hold the race a few days earlier than normal, so it could continue the tradition of schools getting involved in the event.
For the famous ‘Chain Gang’ race, Councillor Jay Dyne, the mayor of Huntingdon, came out on top, with Councillor Phil Pope, the mayor of St Ives, and Councillor Richard West, chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council, finishing in joint-second place.
Councillor Sarah Conboy, the mayor of Godmanchester, also stopped by to cheer the competitors on.
Huntingdon Tesco Extra sponsored a batch of crème eggs for the event.
Natasha Pierson, deputy town clerk for Huntingdon Town Council, said: “Huntingdon’s annual pancake flipathon is always a hugely popular event for the local community. It was great to welcome so many schools, groups and businesses in Huntingdon along, as long as our local mayors and chairmen.
“This year, we had more than 150 contestants, all of whom received a free chocolate egg, kindly donated by Huntingdon Tesco Extra. Boxes of chocolates were also donated by Luminus for the community groups. A great time was had by all and as always, it was lovely to bring so many members of the community together for a morning of fun.”
