There was success for Huntingdonshire in this year’s Anglia in Bloom awards, with communities rewarded for their stunning floral displays.
There were gold awards for Huntingdon and St Ives in the large town category, while Huntingdon’s ‘Moor’ won silver in the urban community category.
The Westwood Road cemetery, in St Ives, scooped a silver gilt in the cemeteries category, and there was also success for the town in the sustainable garden category – won by the park and ride site – and the best individual display – won by the residents of Garner Road.
The best local authority floral display was won by Huntingdon Town Council for its unique displays around the town, including the deck chair and the homage to Pericles.
Bob Ollier, chairman of Anglia in Bloom said: “This year standards have continued on from last year with excellent awards achieved, the outstanding community work, many resourceful projects and superb floriferous displays have all added to fantastic community entries.
“The continued key to success has been community involvement where everyone gets involved and works together and then deliver great community projects.
“I congratulate all the communities in the Anglia region, for the enthusiasm, commitment and effort made to improve, develop and sustain local environments across our region.”

A community is a winner as soon as it enters into the campaign. No matter what the British climate throws at us the entrants in Anglia in Bloom take it all in their stride and make the areas where they live better places”
An awards ceremony to honour this year’s winners was held last Thursday in Gorleston, Norfolk.
The award for best overall entry, and this year’s winner, went to Bury St Edmunds, which will now go forward to compete against other regional winners at the national finals, taking place in October.
