A 60-year-old man who died after being hit by a train at St Neots station had “never showed signs of suicidal behaviour”, an inquest heard on Thursday (February 11).
Jan Donald Scoon, of Eltisley Manor care home, in St Neots, called for a taxi at 11am on September 14 last year and asked to go to the town centre before re-directing the taxi to the station.
After he left the cab, Greg Tipley, the driver, saw Mr Scoon staring at the station, which he said was “strange”.
Sergeant Roy McMichael, of the British Transport Police, said he stepped out in front of a Virgin East Coast train travelling at 125 miles an hour.
The train driver applied emergency brakes, but could not stop in time.
Community psychiatric nurse, Emma Lewington, said Mr Scoon never showed signs of suicidal behaviour or self-harm.
Senior Coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, David Heming, concluded the cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries, as a result of suicide.
