Property developer Capital & Centric, in partnership with Huntingdonshire District Council, were proposing to turn the large Tebbutts Road car park into a housing development.
The plans include two five-storey buildings with up to 83 homes, commercial units for independent businesses, a "crinkle crankle" walled garden and a community pavilion surrounded by green open space.
There were also plans to develop car parks in St Ives and Huntingdon into similar neighbourhoods.
St Neots residents were invited to a drop-in public consultation today (Wednesday August 18) to give feedback on the project.
However, it now appears that the developments could be put on hold.
A Capital & Centric representative at the consultation told The Hunts Post that the plans for Tebbutts Road were now "highly unlikely" to go ahead, and the drop-in session was about seeing what residents would like to see regarding regeneration in the town.
Visitors were handed forms to fill in to share their ideas on the Tebbutts Road proposal.
This was a different set-up to the Huntingdon consultation yesterday (August 17), where Capital & Centric representatives brought boards showcasing plans for the Princes Street car park.
The final consultation, for St Ives, is scheduled for August 19 at the Corn Exchange, between 4-7pm.
