I was very excited to be invited to Prezzo in Peterborough to try out their lunch menu after their recent refurbishment - and it did not disappoint.

Firstly, the restaurant's decor is gorgeous. A member of staff told me they had undergone a complete revamp around six weeks ago to give the space a fresh feel, as before it was apparently a little dark.

That certainly isn't a problem anymore; the space feels bright, airy and colourful with modern wood finishes and bold prints on the walls.

My sister and I were seated near the front of the restaurant by the window, but the space is deceivingly large and extends back a long way.

There is even a garden space at the back for outdoor dining.

We started off with drinks and both went for one of their homemade coolers.

I tried the Wild Strawberry Lemonade, which was delicious, very refreshing and perfect for the unrelenting hot weather we have had this summer. My sister had a Citrus Cooler, which she loved as well and said it was very well presented.

Next we shared the Tomato Bruschetta and some olives to start.

We both agreed that the bruschetta was the highlight of the meal; the bread was perfectly crisp but still soft inside and the tomatoes on top were elevated so well by the fresh pesto and balsamic glaze.

My sister remarked that the pesto was especially flavourful and we both enjoyed the olives too which came dressed with olive oil and garlic.

For the main course, I tried one of the specials: the Cheesy Nduja Meatballs and Spaghetti. The pork meatballs were delicious; they were very well seasoned and had a melting cheese centre which I really enjoyed.

The pasta tasted freshly made as well, and everything was brought together with a rich tomato sauce that had a bit of a kick from the nduja.

My sister was slightly overwhelmed by the size of her vegetable calzone - you definitely get your money's worth with this dish!

She liked the marinara dipping sauce it came with and said the dough was excellent; it was finished with a bit of garlic butter and parmesan. However, she did say the vegetable and cheese filling could have been slightly more flavourful.

Despite nearly clearing all our plates so far, we decided we had to make room for dessert.

I went for the Sicilian Lemon Meringue Pie which was the ideal way to finish. The meringue was perfectly fluffy and complemented the tart lemon filling and buttery pastry very well.

However, I actually preferred my sister's tiramisu which was deliciously creamy and rich. It was a bit of a sweeter take on a classic tiramisu and wasn't overly alcoholic which we enjoyed.

Both of us had a great time at Peterborough's Prezzo and will definitely be back.

The menu had a huge variety of dishes, from classic Italian pizzas and pastas to different burgers and salads, so there is definitely something for everyone.

Expect large portion sizes for main courses though, so be sure to leave room for dessert.
