A decade of capturing precious moments has turned a passion for photography into a thriving business.
St Ives-based Dinky Little Dot Photography is celebrating 10 years of specialising in newborn and baby photography, offering families timeless portraits and lasting memories.
Founded and run by Laura, the studio creates a calm, welcoming space for newborn, maternity, baby milestone, cake smash and family photography sessions in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
Laura said: "Photography has always been something I’ve loved, but after seeing just how quickly babies change during those first few weeks of life, I realised how important it is to preserve those memories.
"I wanted to build a business that gives families beautiful, lasting reminders of moments that pass by so quickly."
Since launching under different branding in 2012 and transitioning to specialist newborn photography in 2016, Laura has photographed hundreds of babies and families from Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and beyond.
The business stands out for its exclusive focus on newborn and baby photography, alongside a commitment to safety, experience and comfort.
Laura said: "I’ve invested heavily in specialist training, professional equipment and creating a luxury studio experience where parents can simply relax while I take care of everything.
"My aim isn’t just to provide digital photographs – it’s to create artwork that becomes part of a family’s home and tells their story for years to come."
Dinky Little Dot Photography is independently owned and operated, with Laura handling every client interaction from initial enquiry to final artwork delivery.
She is occasionally supported by a contracted colleague during peak times for viewing appointments.
The business is the focus of this week’s Think Local / Buy Local campaign.
Laura said: "Supporting local businesses has such a positive impact on our community.
"When people choose independent businesses, they’re supporting local families, helping create local jobs and keeping money within the local economy.
"As a small business owner, I’m incredibly grateful every time a family chooses me to capture such an important chapter in their lives.
"Those decisions allow independent businesses like mine to continue growing, investing back into the local community and providing a personal service that larger companies simply can’t replicate."
This milestone year has been especially rewarding for Laura, who has also been named a finalist in two categories at the Huntingdonshire Business Awards: Small Business of the Year and St Ives Business of the Year.
She was also a finalist in the Small Business of the Year category last year.
Laura said: "It’s a real honour to receive that recognition and a reflection of the wonderful support I’ve received from local families over the last decade.
"I’m incredibly proud to be part of the Huntingdonshire business community and look forward to welcoming many more families into the studio in the years ahead."
Dinky Little Dot Photography is based at 1st Floor, 8 Harding Way, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, PE27 3WR.
