A new Huntingdonshire secondary school has announced it has appointed its first headteacher.
Dr Michael Fordham will lead Alconbury Weald Church Academy, a new school set to open in September 2027.
He is currently principal of Thetford Academy in Norfolk and has taught history for 20 years.
Dr Fordham said: "It is both exciting and an honour to have been appointed as the first headteacher of Alconbury Weald Church Academy.
"This role is a special opportunity to shape a completely new school, together with local families and their children.
“I look forward to working together with parents to ensure we are offering an educational experience that opens up new worlds for every child.
"We will not be an exam factory, but a school that is academically ambitious for every child ensuring they develop a curiosity about the world they live in."
His experience includes senior leadership roles, curriculum design, and work both in the UK and internationally.
In 2012, he served as the Outstanding-Educator-in-Residence with Singapore’s Ministry of Education.
He previously led initial teacher training for the Inspiration Trust and was assistant headteacher at West London Free School, where he helped launch a sixth form in 2016.
Alconbury Weald Church Academy, part of Grace Schools, will welcome its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2027, with applications opening a year earlier in September 2026.

Dr Fordham is also an advocate for extra-curricular activities, believing strongly in the value of a well-rounded education.
He is a guide at Ely Cathedral, a hillwalking enthusiast, and a participant in the Royal Ballet and Opera’s Leaders for Impact programme.
He has promoted the arts in schools and fostered a musical partnership with Britten Sinfonia during his time in Thetford.
