Declan Berry, 18, from Wisbech, was one of five occupants in a car that entered the River Nene, at North Brink, near Wisbech, on March 17.

He was recovered from river at Crab Marsh after local river official contacted police on Tuesday (March 31).

Five people had been travelling in the vehicle, which was recovered from the river five days after the collision.

Three others – two girls aged 16 and an 18-year-old man – managed to escape the vehicle.

The desperate family and friends of Declan launched a Facebook group to help coordinate search efforts along the River Nene.

Amassing more than 1,000 members, the page gave regular updates on the activity of family, friends and volunteers in the search for the 18-year-old.

Paying tribute, Declan's older brother, Connor, described his young brother as "full of life and always joking".

"Declan had a great sense of humour and loved his car", he said.

The 18-year-old had just passed his driving test and planned to carry out some improvement work on his VW Polo.

Connor said that Declan came from a "hard-working family", and that his younger brother would join him on the job.

"I spent a lot of time with Declan. He worked with me on my gardening business that I started when I was 13. I was helping him to mature and become an adult," Connor added.

The older brother hoped, one day, Declan would find a girlfriend, settle down and have a family of his own.

The Berry family have plans to create a memorial on the riverbank for Declan, with Connor planning to create a platform with a seat.
