At the end of last year, this newspaper launched a special token‑collect competition offering schools across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire the chance to win a share of £10,000 worth of arts equipment.
The initiative invited pupils, families and local communities to collect and submit newspaper tokens in support of their chosen school, helping them compete for a top place on the leader board.
We are delighted to announce our Cambs winners:
First place: Ely St John Primary School Awarded £750 worth of arts equipment
Second place: Wheatfields Primary School Awarded £350 worth of arts equipment
John Henson, headteacher at Ely St John's Primary School, said: "Ely St. John's Primary School are super excited to have won the 'Arts Equipment for Schools' competition and would like to say a massive thank you to the competition organisers and all of the school community who helped to collect so many tokens from the newspaper!
"In particular, the support from our fabulous PTA (The Friends) helped to spread the word to everyone to collect the tokens and to organise the collection, counting and sending off of them all. Thank you everyone!
"We will be able to use the voucher for £750 to purchase a significant amount of new resources and equipment to support our creative approach to the art curriculum - we have lots of exciting plans already!"
Art lead at Wheatfields, Leigh Gray-Thomas, said: "This is fantastic news for us all at Wheatfields Primary School! Our school councillors will be discussing ideas with each class, on how we can enhance our Art curriculum using the £350 voucher.
"Ideas could include, a whole school art week, building sculptures in the classrooms or outside, or inviting a local artist to teach drawing or painting. Very exciting!
"We are very grateful to our school community for collecting the vouchers and making it such a success for our school."
