A lorry carrying mini digger was found abandoned in the middle of the road.
Police were called to Toll Bar Way in Sawtry earlier this week and arrived to find the vehicle blocking both lanes.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: "It had a split to the side of it, a flat tyre and a mini digger in the back, but no driver to be seen
"Officers searched the area, but unfortunately there was no one found.
"The investigation continues.
"Stolen or insecure lorries are often used to move high-value items"
They added: "If you notice anything suspicious around commercial vehicles or machinery, call 999."
