Huntingdonshire farmer Anne-Marie Hamilton says people tend to be kinder at Christmas
The last 12 months have been rather difficult, including a prolonged drought, a poor harvest and politics (enough said about that)!
However, no matter how fed up I feel on occasions for the rest of the year, the one thing that I really look forward to is Christmas.
Not the endless tinny jingles in the shops or the relentless advertising on television, but the actual celebration itself.
There is something timeless about it and it definitely engenders “Goodwill on earth” as people do seem to be kinder to each other over the Christmas period.
I am always struck by those selfless people who look out for their elderly friends and neighbours, the numbers of volunteers who give up family time to provide food for the lonely, and shelter for the homeless, and those families who host vast Christmas dinners for extended family and friends to bring everyone together. It is a special time and one that I cherish.
