Will the rain spoil the show at Gransden this year?

Even the newly planted oilseed rape crop has decided to survive now, which is a massive relief as it was beginning to look very sad as it struggled to become established.

However, whilst I am delighted to see the rain, I fervently hope that it will do the decent thing and not rain on Gransden Show Day this year on the last Saturday of this month (September 27).

I still haven’t forgiven it for flooding the showground last year and causing the show to be cancelled for the first time in living memory.

I have an even more important reason for attending this year as I have been sitting in the kitchen whilst torrential showers have thundered down outside, but I have not been idle.

Rob has decided that it was important to keep me entertained, so I have been surrounded by bags of grain and allowed to help with selecting the entries for the best cereal crops in various classes.

Gosh, that man certainly knows how to treat a girl!

Gransden Show is one of my favourite days out.

There is so much to do, whether you are from a town or country background.

Children can get up close to the animals and farm machinery, and there are fun activities going on all over the showground all day.

There is so much to see and do, no matter what age you are.

The atmosphere is really welcoming, and it is a great place to meet family and friends – even well-behaved dogs are welcome!

If you are feeling particularly competitive, you can enter your dog in the family dog show, which is always entertaining to watch.

I love the wide variety of shopping opportunities, too, and often manage to buy a few unusual early Christmas presents.

And no visit to the show would be complete without a visit to all the local food producer’s stalls from where I usually come home laden with goodies.

So, if you are listening, rain, whilst you are very welcome at present, don’t you dare spoil the show this year, or I will never forgive you!
