1940s-themed event to celebrate VE Day at Alconbury Weald

The event, organised by the Alconbury Weald Community Association, will take place on Saturday, May 10, from midday to 4pm on Watch Office Green.

The community is invited to join the celebration, which commemorates the end of World War II in Europe.

Market stalls selling handmade crafts, gifts, sweets, pet products, and a florist will be present at the event.

Traditional lawn games, including ring toss and hopscotch, will be available for attendees to enjoy.

Heritage Open Day (Image: Alconbury Weald Community Association) Raw Theatre Productions will perform 1940s sets from 1pm to 2pm and 3pm to 4pm.

A prize will be awarded for the best vintage style, and attendees are encouraged to wear 1940s attire.

The Watch Office Bar and Kitchen, located in the refurbished World War II Watch Office, will serve drinks, bar snacks, and main meals.

The Nissan Hut, which historically served as a central operations building during the war, will provide a backdrop for the event.

Pimp My Fish food truck will offer traditional fish and chips with a creative twist, as well as burgers and burritos.

An ice cream van will serve frozen desserts.

"Its past makes it a really special place to celebrate this important anniversary in world history.

"Alconbury Weald Community Association has done a fantastic job organising this event, with something for all ages and interests to enjoy.

"We hope residents will be joined by family, friends, and visitors to celebrate this important milestone and remember those who fought to protect our freedoms."

Admission to the event is free, and free parking is available.
