The cricket pavilion on the King George V Playing Field, in Huntingdon was built in the 1960s and has "served its purpose through time", the planning statement reads.
However, Huntingdon Town Council, the applicants of the plans, sought to demolish it and build a newer, more modern pavilion in its place.
The existing pavilion is "no longer fit for purpose", and the town council has identified funding which can be put towards new facilities with changing rooms and a social room.
Huntingdon Town Council said that the application would provide "much needed facilities for cricket in Huntingdon" and it "would encourage youth participation in the sport".
Huntingdonshire District Council approved the plans on April 9, 2025.
Once the new pavilion has been built, the Town Council and cricket club hope to encourage local community groups to take advantage of hiring the building during the daytime and weekends during the cricket off-season.
