Huntingdon annual Pancake Day Flipathon held in town

The event, organised by Huntingdon Town Council, saw local mayors, councillors, schools and businesses come together and have a "flipping" good time this Pancake Day.

The festivities kicked off with the Chain Gang Race, featuring the Mayor of Huntingdon, Cllr Karl Brockett, the Mayor of Godmanchester, Cllr Alan Hooker, Chair of Huntingdonshire District Council, Cllr Steve McAdam and the Mayoress of Huntingdon, Julie Brockett.

The race involved a quick walk round the square and designated "flip points", where those taking part had to perform a pancake flip that satisfied the judges.

The winner of the race was the Mayor of Huntingdon, Cllr Karl Brockett, who pipped Steve McAdam at the final flip point.

Cllr Karl Brockett won the race, with Cllr Steve McAdam just behind him. (Image: Newsquest) Students from Spring Common Academy, Prestley Wood Academy, St John's Primary School and Stukeley Meadows Primary School had a go on the course as well, flipping their pancakes round the square.

Representatives from the Papworth Trust, Huntingdon and Peterborough Federation of WIs, Huntingdon First (BID), Hunts Volunteer Centre, My Dentist, Scope, Sue Ryder, and Amazon, took their turn in the competition too.

"The enthusiasm from participants and spectators alike really showcases the strong community spirit we have in Huntingdon.

"A huge thank you to Tesco Huntingdon Extra for donating the pancakes and chocolate eggs, and to everyone who joined in the fun.

"Congratulations to all our teams—I hope to see you back flipping again next year!"

All of the first and second place winners were given their own medals, and all of the participants picked up their own chocolate egg for their efforts.
