Huntingdonshire farmer Anne-Marie Hamilton brings us her new year message.
It has been hard to feel festive when life has been so gloomy in recent months. Storm-force gales, torrential rain, worry about the future, lying politicians and ongoing world instability have tended to blunt my usually optimistic outlook on life.
I am delighted to say that my grumpy view of life changed when I took a drive though our pretty village of Hail Weston.
To my joy, I discovered the most spectacular array of Christmas lights and decorations. and I realised that the true spirit of Christmas is alive and well.
I ended up with a huge smile on my face and the world tipped back into balance, so a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone concerned. What a fabulous show, and a wonderful start to Christmas!
Another Christmas enthusiast this year is Fred, our little rescued terrier. Since coming to live at Wood Farm just over 15 months ago, he has changed considerably from a frightened, ten-month old puppy with no name, to a happy young farm dog who is embracing rural life with huge enthusiasm.
This year, now that he feels safe, loved and more confident, I believe that he will really enjoy life rather than worry about it.
Since learning how to play, he loves new toys. However, since Storm Bert, that list has undergone a serious revision as Fred had a very frightening experience during a morning walk.
A massive gust of wind whipped him off his feet, lifted him at least three feet into the air and tried to blow him away.
Thankfully, he was firmly attached to his lead that day, which prevented a catastrophe. But, to add insult to injury, the wind then paused for breath and rapidly poor Fred was dumped unceremoniously back to earth.
