As 2024 draws to a close, HCR104fm celebrates another successful year of connecting, entertaining, and informing our listeners.
This year reaffirmed our mission to foster community spirit through engaging content and meaningful outreach.
In August live events Carnival and Live in the Park captured the energy of local talent.
Seasonal specials such as Christmas Carols of the Air, the Spotlight Team’s Hootenanny and our Radio Panto added to the enjoyment of the Christmas season.
Our programming continued to shine, led by flagship shows like Breakfast, Mornings with Peter Rogers, and specialist evening and weekend music shows.
These staples brought a vibrant mix of music, while Over to You highlighted untold stories and celebrated the diversity of Huntingdonshire.
Our drama department Wavelengths continued to go from strength to strength with its award-winning radio soap Huntsford and the sitcom Ambleforth Manor.
Five of the six parliamentary candidates were interviewed prior to the general election in July and we were pleased to be able to broadcast Election 24 - a results programme, with on-the-spot reports from the counts in collaboration with our neighbour Black Cat Radio of St Neots.
One of our proudest achievements was the Spotlight Marathon Broadcast on Good Friday.
This 12-hour event, supporting autism acceptance, featured live studio performances, guest interviews, and a conversation with a representative from Cambridge’s Autism Centre of Excellence.
Recognition came in November when our Sky Tonight astronomy show won a Silver Award at the UK Community Radio Awards.
The show featured captivating commentary from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on the launch of a massive rocket from Cape Canaveral, a testament to our volunteers' dedication and talent.
HCR104fm also embraced innovation in 2024. A new mobile app made it easier than ever for listeners to enjoy their favourite shows anytime, anywhere.
None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers, sponsors, and partners, whose hard work and support kept the station thriving and we thank every one who made this year unforgettable.
Together, we’ve proven that local radio isn’t just about broadcasting - it’s about fostering connections and celebrating the heart of Huntingdon.
