As 2024 draws to a close, it has been another truly exceptional year for the Black Cat Radio team. Collecting two “Golds” at the recent National Community Radio Awards and a phenomenal response to the Christmas appeal for the Three Pillars charity are the icing on the cake of 12 months’ progress.
The St Neots-based station worked with HCRfm on the General Election coverage and the two teamed up again to put in a joint bid to bring small scale DAB to the area. They await an announcement from OFCOM.
There were milestones for Dave Thomas, who is the driving force behind the appeal, as he attained 12 years’ volunteering and Barrie Hyde will shortly celebrate 20 years of “the 70s Album Show; a production he brought to Black Cat Radio after years on BBC local radio.
The award winning Your Voice team brought more than 250 conversations to the airwaves and two new shows, featuring country music and jazz, hit the airwaves during the year.
School students Billy Fawcett and Hollie Tregidgo continue to provide reports for the station’s weekday breakfast show and the team welcomed their first ever work experience youngsters, Scarlett and Megan.
We look forward to volunteering for more great radio next year. It’s only the giving that makes us what we are.
