Local election results day 2024 was a day dominated by Labour, not just across the UK but in Welwyn Hatfield too.

The party made huge gains, winning eight seats previously held by the Conservatives, while the Liberal Democrats made two of their own from the Tories.

That means the blue party, who suffered 10 losses at the count in Campus West today (May 3), have gone from overall control of the council to the smallest party in the past year.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council now has 20 Labour seats, 16 Liberal Democrat and 12 Conservative, which means the council remains under no overall control.

A Labour and Liberal Democrat joint administration has been running the council since last year's election, and current council leader Paul Zukowskyj told the Welwyn Hatfield times that he "doesn't see it changing really significantly".
