Weekend drivers on the A1307 had quite a shock on Sunday, April 7, after a herd of alpacas managed to escape onto the road.

The herd, which appears to have been around 20 alpacas, held up traffic near Hemingford Abbots in the afternoon.

They were seen munching on the grass underneath the central reservation.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to assist the escape artists.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called at about 2pm yesterday (April 7) with reports of alpacas in the road on the A1307, near Hemingford Abbots.

"Officers attended but the animals had already been secured back in their field."

Fortunately, the alpacas are back on their farm and are in safe hands.

It was certainly a drive to remember on the A1307.
