In this week's Spotlight on Volunteers feature, we hear from the volunteers at the Huntingdonshire Volunteer Centre.

Who are the Huntingdonshire Volunteer Centre?

The Huntingdonshire Volunteer Centre is made up of four offices in Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots - and not forgetting our Huntingdon Together Charity Shop in Huntingdon.

The Centre aims to promote the good in volunteering by matching individuals with opportunities on behalf of other charities.

We also run a Community Car Scheme, where all the work is carried out by volunteers.

Could you be a volunteer?

Whether you're looking to help for an hour a week, or you have some time to share every day, there is a volunteer position out there for you!

You can find all the latest opportunities on our website, at www.huntsvc.org.uk, or by contacting us on admin@huntsvc.org.uk

Due to an increase in demand, we are in need of additional volunteer drivers across the Huntingdonshire area.

If you have your own vehicle and would like to help individuals get to appointments, or to run essential errands, then please contact us.

Even one journey a week can make such a difference to someone living in our community!

In return, drivers receive 45p per mile driven.

Last year, our volunteer drivers made 7,742 journeys. They covered a total of 89,077 miles.

Using the Community Car Scheme

The Community Car Scheme concentrates on meeting the mobility needs of elderly, disabled or disadvantaged passengers who are, for whatever reason, unable to use conventional public transport.

Maybe you live out in a rural or urban area, and don't have local transport for the time you need a doctor's appointment.

This scheme can be used by anyone living in the Huntingdonshire area.

There is a charge of 45p per mile for the journey, based upon mileage travelled by the driver, plus a booking fee of £2.

Please telephone your nearest office to book your journey, or leave us a message on the answer phone and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
