Here is a round-up of some of the criminals who faced the courts and were jailed across Cambridgeshire during the month of February.

Their offences included crimes of burglary, shoplifting and drink-driving as well as kidnap and the case of a man who threw petrol bombs at a police station.

Aidan Bird

Aidan Bird, 18, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for burglary and kidnap.

The St Ives teenager attacked multiple teenagers in February 2023 when he broke into a Somersham home, armed with a machete.

He broke into another home in Somersham, again with a machete, and stole items.

He also kidnapped a 17-year-old boy, drove him to a remote location in Warboys, and attacked him.

He attacked another teenager in Huntingdon before locking him in a garage.

Mary Casey

Casey, a 34-year-old from St Albans, ran over her one-year-old great niece after she drunkenly drove the wrong way down a one-way street in Cambridge.

In July 2022, Casey overtook four cars waiting at traffic lights, sped round a corner and through no entry signs, where she lost control and crashed into two parked cars.

After the crash, Casey's great-niece was removed from the car and placed on the pavement, before Casey reserved the car and hit the one-year-old.

Casey's great-niece suffered a bleed on the brain, a fractured skull and fractured ribs.

Casey now faces 20 months behind bars, and a three year and 10 month driving disqualification.

Voldemaras Rimasauskas

Rimasauskas, 31, landed himself 12 years in prison after he threw homemade petrol bombs at an open window in Huntingdon Police Station in December 2022.

The arsonist failed to hit the window, where three police officers were inside, but caused significant scorch damage on the building.

He used socks, which were discovered at the scene of the crime, to light the devices that he'd made at home. 

Nathan Lovell

Nathan Lovell, 33, from Wisbech, paid nearly £5,000 for adults to abuse children around the world, and had over 1,000 indecent images of children on his phone.

The paedophile sexually abused two young girls between January 2021 and June 2023.

When police arrested him, they found 1,258 indecent images or videos of children on his phone.

He also promised a puppy as payment to an adult to abuse a young girl, and spent £4,800 paying for child sex abuse online.

He will spend 15 years in prison for his horrific crimes.

Arturas Opulskis

A second man from Wisbech was jailed in February. 

Arturas Opulskis, 41, sexually assaulted a young girl in Wisbech from 2016 to 2018.

He was found guilty of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration and sentenced to eight years in prison.

Shaun Wheeler

Shaun Wheeler, 33, of Peterborough, threatened to "flatten" his blackmail victim, as well as telling him to rob a post office, steal from his family, and sell his children's Christmas presents.

In December 2023, Wheeler was owed £490. When his victim couldn't pay, he tripled the debt to £1,500 and began to threaten his victim.

Wheeler was arrested after the victim paid him back the £490 and ceased contact with him.

He will spend two years and three months in prison.

Dane O'Callaghan

Dane O'Callaghan, 35, stole champagne, meat and confectionary from a Co-Op in Werrington in January 2024.

He also stole two dog leads and a harness worth £99 from Gladwells Pet & Country Stores, a £24 drone from The Entertainer, and two bikes from a shed in Eastfield Road.

The Peterborough thief will spend 26 weeks in prison, and must pay compensation to the bicycle owners, The Entertainer, Gladwells Pet & Country Stores, and the Co-Op.

Thomas Walsh

Thomas Walsh, a 39-year-old man, stabbed his mother in the head with a fork when she wouldn't let him play loud music. 

Walsh attacked his mother in her Landbeach home before driving off from the scene recklessly.

Reports were made that Walsh was driving with a damaged door, a shredded tyre, and a dog in the passenger seat.

Walsh has been jailed for two years and is banned from driving for three years.
