Applications are open to the public who want to consider becoming a town councillor on St Ives Town Council.

A spokesperson for St Ives Town Council said: "Notice is hereby given that St Ives Town Council has one vacancy to be filled by co-option."

Anyone who wishes to apply for the role can submit a written statement (less than 300 words) to the town clerk about why they believe they'd be a suitable member of St Ives Town Council.

Applications are open for the position until Monday, March 4 at midday. 

All applications should be sent to St Ives Town Council either via post or email by March 4, and all will be considered at the next Town Council Meeting.

In order to be eligible for co-option, applicants must be either a British subject, or citizen of the Commonwealth or EU. They must also be over 18.

Applicants need to also meet one of the following qualifications:

- Be registered as a local government elector for the parish of St Ives, or;

- Have, during the whole of the past 12 months, occupied as an owner or tenant, land or other premises in St Ives, or;

- Have your principal place of work in St Ives, or;

- During the whole of the past 12 months, resided in St Ives or within three miles of it.

Some people may disqualified from the role. The disqualifications are:

- Holding a paid office or employment with St Ives Town Council;

- Has been adjudged bankrupt or has made an arrangement with their creditors;

- Has, within five years, been convicted of any offence and has been sentenced to imprisonment (whether suspended or not) for not less than three months without the option of a fine;

- Is disqualified under Part III of the Representation of the People Act 1983 for corrupt or illegal practices.
